Are you one of those people who just doesn’t have the coordination it takes to dance? I felt the same way at first and I would bet most people just starting out do too. If you didn’t grow up dancing, it’s a whole new thing for your body. You need to train yourself to do these new movements and the only way to do that is repetition.

When I first started, I thought I’d never get it. I was terrible and I blamed it on two left feet. I continued to practice just about every single day. Some days I’d practice for only 10 or 20 minutes and some days for up to an hour. It seemed like I just wasn’t making any progress and then about 3 weeks into my lessons it just hit me.

I actually had some coordination.

I wasn’t forgetting the moves anymore and the step counts weren’t consuming my thoughts. I could do simple Salsa moves and I actually had some fun on the dance floor. I still remember that day, practicing with my girlfriend. It was a breakthrough for me and it felt great.

Some of us are slower to start than others but if you keep at it, eventually you’ll get it.

Are you ready to learn how to salsa dance? Check out these free videos and see if Salsa is for you.

Have you ever considered taking salsa dancing lessons but didn’t because you don’t have a partner to go with? I know lots of people who have used this as an excuse, but if those people only knew how social salsa lessons can be, they would have no reason to worry.

That’s because classes are almost always designed so that you change partners every couple of minutes. If you did bring a partner, you won’t be dancing with him for very long. It’s actually a ton of fun.

And if you’re the type of person who is slightly on the shy side, consider learning how to salsa dance from home first, then hit up your local salsa hot spot and socialize. Being social is one of the best parts of learning to salsa. I’ve also found it to be a great way to get people to come out of their shell.

I saw this video of a dog salsa dancing and just had to post it. I’m sure it took quite a few lessons to get him dancing this good.

Zumba has taken the world by storm in the past year. Everyone is talking about it, it’s mentioned on the news at least once a week and you can find it offered at just about any gym you visit. Zumba has reached critical mass and for good reason. It’s tons of fun!

If you don’t know what Zumba is, it’s a cardio workout which combines the dancing styles of salsa, merengue, mambo, hip-hop and belly dancing.

The people of Columbia, South Carolina seem to enjoy Zumba so much that they decided to go for the world record of the largest Zumba class ever. Approximately 1,200 people showed up to the class at the University of South Carolina, which crushes the old Guinness World Record previously set at 900 people.

I regularly keep track of dance related topics people talk about in social media and one that constantly comes up are movies and television shows that inspire people to learn how to dance.

Out of the many reality television shows about dancing, the two most popular seem to be Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. I’ve also seen a lot of interest lately in the show Live to Dance which is judged by a panel of three people including Paula Abdul.

Then there are movies. There are tons of movies that inspire people to dance, but only one champions all others – Dirty Dancing. Every time Dirty Dancing airs on television, I see Twitter and all of the other social media sites flood with comments about wanting to learn how to dance.

I think it’s great that more dance shows are starting to get slots on prime-time television and that dancing related movies continue to inspire people to move forward with their dreams and hopes of being able to dance.

Go out and rent Dirty Dancing and tell me it doesn’t make you want to learn how to dance.

I love Outkast, but I really don’t care much for their song “Bombs Over Baghdad,” I don’t know why. I think it’s just the tune I don’t care for. Anyway, I do love the music video. It’s really weird and hard to stop watching, just like all of Outkast’s music videos.

I also really love the fun hip-hop choreography at the end of the video while the DJ is scratching. It’s short but this scene has tons of energy and is so exciting to watch.

Watch the entire video below or jump ahead to the 3:00 minute mark.

Do you have any favorite music video dance scenes? Post them in the comments below :D

I just came across this image and had to post it on the blog. There is so much to love about this guy. He might be one of the greatest dancers ever, but it certainly doesn’t show here. But what this image does show is that he’s having fun.

This is what dancing is all about. You don’t have to be a professional dancer to enjoy dancing. Who cares what everybody else thinks. What’s important is that when you dance, you’re enjoying yourself.

Take a hint from this guy and just get out there and move. Shake your body and have a good time!

New technology brings exciting new possibilities, which is exactly what the Xbox 360 Kinect is doing with the gaming industry. If you don’t know what the Kinect is, it’s a device that connects to the Xbox 360 that detects motion. That means your body is the controller.

This is exciting because games like Zumba Fitness for the Xbox 360 will now allow you to get an awesome dance fitness workout all based around sexy latin beats. If you’ve taken a Zumba class, you know how much fun they can be and how many cool latin dance moves you can learn in the process.

This is definitely a game I would recommend for anyone who loves dancing or fitness. It would make a great Christmas present too.

Lauren Froderman!

The 18 year-old from Phoenix was chosen by viewers to win the $250,000 grand prize. Lucky girl!

Did you catch the finale of So You Think You Can Dance last night? It was probably one of the best finales the show has had yet. There were so many awesome performances. They revisited several of the best performances from the season, and had some really cool new ones such as from the the Quest Crew as well as one from a 7-year old tap dancer named Luke Spring.

To top it all off, Ellen Degeneres made a special appearance and did a number with Stephen “Twitch” Boss set to the song “Outta Your Mind” by Lil’ Jon and LMFAO. She actually did quite well and it was really funny. I loved when she did the fake clumsiness and slapped Twitch in the face and then kicked him in stomach. :)

Fox will likely place the finale on the So You Think You Can Dance website in a couple days if you missed it or want to watch it again.

Hulu.com is one of my favorite websites ever. They let you watch tons of new shows and movies for free and it’s all legal because they have agreements in place with the big television networks. If you don’t already have an account, I suggest you create one.

One of the best reasons to register at Hulu.com is that you can be notified every time a new episode of The LXD (Legion of Extraordinary Dancers) is available. This brand-new show is about ordinary people who come to discover that they have extraordinary powers allowing them to dance in magnificent ways. The show is fun, and feels like a mixture of So You Think You Can Dance and some sort of random comic book. Each episode really is a ton of fun to watch.

The LXD is a series that is only available on Hulu so if you want to watch it, that’s where you’ll have to go. The episode times vary, but none so far exceed 15 minutes so each show can be watched in easily digestible chunks. I definitely recommend checking it out. One of my favorite episodes so far is Robot Lovestory, which you can also watch below. I watched episodes 1-6 last night and plan to catch up on the rest this weekend. :D
